The YuGiOh Master Duel Xyz Festival has started, letting fans compete with Xyz-themed decks for in-game rewards such as gems and tickets.
Rather than risk the ire of angry fans if rewards were only given to winners though, the event is nice enough to make it so you collect more medals for winning but still get them if you lose, as long as you don’t surrender.
YuGiOh fans, ever the crafty type, found a way to maximize their Xyz Festival farming in Master Duel- by killing themselves, with decks specifically tailored to knock their own lifepoints to zero on the first turn.
Equally reckless players won’t have to work too hard to burn out their own lifepoints, considering how many decks will incur lifepoints as a cost for activating their effects such as Solemn Judgment, who straight up cuts your LP in half or Toon World, that incurs a 1000 LP penalty to activate.
Of course, the community has found a way to have fun with this, even if this means they won’t get their Xyz duels. Some users have made what’s called “Emergency medic” decks, designed to constantly heal their opponents before they get the chance to finish themselves off.
It’s no surprise the community would react this way for any event that was built around number of games played to completion- YuGiOh is notoriously famous for players taking long turns, as each player wants to show off the full might of their deck through laughably extravagant combos.
Still, the existence of the medic counter-meta shows that the game’s community remembers what the game’s about- having fun, even if it causes you to deck out doing so.
