YuGiOh is getting a new manga, this time telling the stories of the cards in the OCG of the game.
In the latest VJump, there was a teaser for the OCG manga, featuring a silhouette for the YuGiOh card Sky Striker Ace- Raye.
According to one reader, the manga won’t simply be all about Sky Strikers, however- instead, it will feature rotating stories about the various archetypes of monsters in the popular card game.
This isn’t the first time YuGiOh has chosen to put aside card game shenanigans to focus on the monsters themselves- YuGiOh Master Duel’s Solo mode is also all about the cards, teaching players about the lore of each set of monsters and even getting you decks based on said cards if you complete them.
YuGiOh is in a particularly unique place in regards to its monsters- unlike games like Magic: The Gathering or the Pokemon TCG where the cards are representative of a particular world, YuGiOh has typically created each set- known as an archetype- to have its own internal story with only the occasional overlap with other archetypes.
As such, it makes sense that they would do an episodic manga focusing on the various archetypes- starting with arguably the most popular of these archetypes, the very-anime Sky Strikers.
