The Ys series has existed since 1987 when it was first released for the NEC PC-88 (that’s very old tech there) by Nihon Falcom. The game was popular and the series made its way up onto consoles and PCs of this generation with the latest one, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana, released for the PS4, PS Vita, Nintendo Switch and Microsoft Windows back in 2016. Now Userjoy, a Taiwanese developer, is taking up the series to develop Ys: Altago for the mobile as it was showcased during ChinaJoy 2018!
Ys: Altago is going to be based off on one of the Ys series where we play as Adol Christin, the main character in the game just like in all of Ys series. As the title suggests, Altago is a place that exists in Ys Seven. Therefore, characters that have appeared in Ys Seven like Aisha Sari Edonas, Mustafa, Dogi and Elk are recruitable as seen in the gameplay trailer.
The Ys gameplay has always been a fast-paced action RPG so it’s only appropriate for Ys: Altago to follow suit as well. As seen in the gameplay trailer, players will control their character in an ARPG fashion, where there are buttons and skills on the right side and it seems there’s a co-op mode as well when fighting against bosses.
So far there’s no news on the release date and since it’s being developed in Taiwan, there’s a possibility the game will only be released there. But of course, we shouldn’t rule out an English version as well since the Ys series is popular amongst the English community.
