Yoko Taro and Yosuke Saito Announce A New Digital-Only Game

Yoko Taro and Yosuke Saito have announced a new game, the creator and Producer of the upcoming NieR Replicant Ver. 1.2247 have announced that they would be working on a new game, though little else has been revealed.

During last night’s NieR Replicant livestream, Yosuke Saito announced that the new game would feature Yoko Taro as a creative director, and that it would be a digital-only release.

4Gamer reports that fans can expect more news on the title in the next month. It’s currently unclear if this is the same other new game that Yoko Taro announced he would be working on previously, or if this is a new title entirely.

What we do know is that this isn’t going to be a spin-off of any of his main titles. In the livestream Saito clarified this would be based on a new IP,  although the phrase “Nostalgic but new” was also used to describe it.

Yoko Taro has been one of the biggest names in gaming in recent years, following his catapult into the mainstream with the widely successful Nier Automata. His weird games combined with the mystique of his costumed public appearances and candid interviews have made him a fan favorite, similar to other esoteric game developers like Hideo Kojima.
