The Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2023 winners have just been announced, following a hard-fought weekend spanning multiple Yu-Gi-Oh! titles like Duel Links, Master Duel and the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card game.
Taking place at the Tokyo Big Sight, this event had a variety of things for fans to do, from watching games to taking part in their own against tournament competitors.
Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links
Takagi vs Yukoo(3-0)
Takagi absolutely steamrolled his opponent Yukoo in the Duel Links grand finals, winning all three of his matches in the first to 5 format using. In his first game he was using a Destiny HERO deck, while he won the remaining two using Synchrons .
Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel
Snipehunters (EU) vs Team 7 (US) (5-3)
Master Duel made its debut at the Yu Gi Oh! World Championship, and boy did it bring results. It’s also the first team-based event at Worlds, with games being played out as 3 simultaneous duels, until one team has a total of five wins.
European team Snipehunters defeated US-based Team 7 5-3, in a nailbiting duel that extended into the third round. The absolute highlight was the Tearlaments mirror match in the second round, as well as a decisive Exosisters game in the final round that helped cement their lead.
Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG/OCG
Paulie Aronson (Dragon Link) vs Juan Mateo Augusto Renteria Pastor (Swordsoul) 2-0
Paulie Aronson had a dominating presence at the TCG Finals, defeating Juan Mateo Augusto Renteria Pastor in a 2-0 blowout with his Dragon Link deck. He managed to stop Juan’s Swordsouls from ever setting up, even playing through Juan’s own attempts to stop him such as with Nibiru, The Primal Being.
His 2-0 shutout would go on to make him the first US TCG Champion in event history.
