Sega has just announced Yakuza Online, the very first entry in its “New Yakuza Project” series, for smartphones and PC. The game will be launched in Japan sometime in 2018 as a free-to-play title with the obligatory micro-transactions.
Yakuza Online tells stories set in Kamurocho right after events which took place in Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, and stars a new protagonist by the name of Kasuga Ichiban , who is voiced by Nakaya Kazuhiro. This time around, while the Tojo Clan remains the strongest clan in Eastern Japan, the Omi Alliance and police have colluded to take control. Enter Ichiban, who has been released from prison after serving a 17-year sentence. One way or another, he will have to restore the district to its former glory, but standing in his way is not only the mob but government as well.
No idea how the game would play like, since this is the first time the game will be brought over to smartphones, but we expect Sega to reveal more at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show taking place next month.
