CLAMP’s occult manga xxxHOLiC is getting a live action stage play, produced by the same people who made the Banana Fish stage play.
A website for the xxxHOLiC live action play was launched, but it didn’t offer any details on the production, outside a photo of Motohiro Ota and Shogo Sakamoto, who would be playing the leads of the manga Yuuko and Watanuki respectively.
The play is scheduled for some time in the fall of this year, and we don’t know if this would be a direct adaptation of the manga’s first arc, or if it would be some form of continuation of the series story.
xxxHOLiC follows the life of Kimihiro Watanuki, who can see spirits and, unfortunately, attract them as well. He seeks the help of a local witch, Yuuko, who offers to remove these gifts from him, with the catch that he first pays off his debt by working for her.
The manga debuted alongside CLAMP’s other work, Tsubasa Resevoir Chronicles, with the two frequently overlapping each other. xxxHOLiC eventually got its own anime adaptation, shortly after Tsubasa’s own anime did.
CLAMP are best known for being the minds behind Cardcaptor Sakura. Their works are seeing a bit of a revival with the recent Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card Arc anime, as well as the announcement of a Tokyo Babylon anime some time this year.
