The new XR Walk Monster Hunter ride at Universal Studios Japan is a new experience where you’ll get to actually pick up a laughably oversized weapon and hunt monsters.
The XR Walk Monster Hunter Ride will have its preliminary opening on January 21st, with its full launch in March before it ends service on August 28th.
This attraction’s a little more elaborate than USJ’s other VR rides in that you’ll be able to walk around with up to three of your friends as you explore the Hoarfrost Reach- the icy locale from Monster Hunter World: Iceborne.
You’ll be able to search for tracks , as well as gather resources to craft items while you look for survivors of the camp- all while building your score to compete with your friends.
Of course, it’s not a Monster Hunter game if you’re just wandering around in the cold. The highlight of the experience is a climactic showdown with the icy Elder Dragon Velkhana, flagship of Monster Hunter World Iceborne.
It looks like the ride will have some sort of haptic feedback, as it’s described that the weapons you use for the attraction will give you a sense of impact when you swing them at monsters.
It looks like Universal Studios Japan is really doubling down with the Anime and gaming themed rides, following the inclusion of Super Nintendo World as well as an upcoming Pokemon Park in the Osaka-based theme park.
