Recently, we covered news on the latest gaming smartphone by Xiaomi in collaboration with Black Shark which comes with a detachable controller on the side of the phone like a Nintendo Switch. They had recently launched the phone last week on the 13th April in Beijing, China which revealed the full specifications of the phone and the price as well. With Xiaomi investing in Black Shark’s technology, Xiaomi is seen dipping their hands into the mobile gaming era to compete with Razer’s gaming smartphone.
The Black Shark gaming phone has a very familiar color which is black and green just like the leading gaming smartphone by Razer. However the design is unlike Razers. It has a curve on the sides and seems bulky at the back. The reason of it’s bulkiness at the back was because of the gaming customized hardware that are installed in it.
Equipped with the latest Snapdragon 845 and a massive 4,000 mAH battery, it also has a new type of liquid cooling system, along with a new ISP. At 5.99″, it has a 18:9 IPS LCD that supports Full HD+ resolution with a 97% DCI-P3 coverage. The Snapdragon 845 chip comes with a Kyro 385 cores and an Adreno 630 GPU. As there’s always a heating issue while gaming on high specs, the liquid cooling system boasts an 8° C down on its CPU temperature.
Sadly, the phone does not have a microSD slot. However there are two versions of the phone which are the 6 GB RAM with a 64 GB storage or the 8 GB RAM with 128 GB storage. Equipped with a new image processing chip by MEMC, it brings sharper colors and overall smooth performance for the phone.
Being a gaming phone, the X-shape at the back of the body provides a better grip while gaming. There’s only one speaker on the phone with a mic that has the ability to provide simple usage of voice calls and radio chat which does not interfere during gaming sessions.
As mentioned before, there’s a detachable controller for gaming called the Black Shark Gamepad which is pretty similar to the Nintendo Switch. The device has a 340 mAH battery which can last 30 hours of usage connected via Bluetooth. A dedicated “Shark” button on the left side will optimize your phone’s hardware performance to run the game you are playing.
Running on Android Oreo 8.1, it also uses the JOY UI which is a custom launcher that is shared with Xiaomi’s MIUI. Instead of being just a gaming phone, it also comes with a dual camera on the back with 12MP and 20MP. While the front also has a 20MP camera. Currently the phone is available with two colors, Polar Night Black and Sky Gray at a price of CNY 2,999 (MYR 1855.54/ SGD 626.64) for 6GB RAM/64GB ROM while the 8GB RAM/128GB ROM will be at CNY 3,499 (MYR 2164.90/ SGD 731.12). The Black Shark Gamepad is sold separately at CNY 179 (MYR 110.75/ SGD 37.40).
