The official Facebook page for Xbox Singapore has rebranded itself to Xbox SEA. You can check out the newly renamed Facebook page here.
Nintendo aside, it is common knowledge that Sony dominates the Asian market with its PlayStation consoles for over a decade. SEA, or Southeast Asia for short, is no exception to this. The reason why the Xbox consoles barely have a presence in this region is because Microsoft does not officially support them in this region, with the exception of Singapore.
As a result, the renaming of Xbox Singapore to Xbox SEA on 9th April seems to suggest that that will change. At the time of writing, Microsoft has not made any official announcement regarding the name change or whether it will penetrate the SEA market for its latest-gen consoles.
Southeast Asia consists of 11 countries. Other than Singapore, it is also unclear which of the other 10 countries will potentially get Xbox support. However, on the newly renamed Facebook page, there were live streams for the Age of Empires fan preview in Malay and Vietnamese. As a result, it seems that the next two Southeast Asian nations that will potentially be getting Xbox support will be Malaysia and Vietnam.
In Malaysia, as thousands of gamers are struggling to get their hands on a PS5, it will be interesting to see how Microsoft will attempt to shake Sony’s grasp should they ever decide to sell Xbox Series X and S here.
