Microsoft’s gaming subscription service, Xbox Game Pass is getting a price increase.
Xbox Game Pass is a subscription service part of Xbox, offered by Microsoft Gaming, which initially launched on June 1, 2017. The service allows users to download and play video games for Xbox consoles or Microsoft Windows PCs from a rotating library. Games remain accessible as long as the user has an active subscription.
For a monthly fee, the pass gives users access to hundreds of games and day-one titles from Microsoft’s internal studios. That includes games like Starfield from Bethesda, Halo from 343i, but also future games like the next Call of Duty, set to launch in the Fall. The changes to game pass just comes after Xbox’s recent layoff and cuts.
Additionally, new users will not be able to sign up for Xbox Game Pass for Console. New users on Xbox Game Pass in the future will have to subscribe to the new Xbox Game Pass “Standard” tier. The tier includes Xbox’s back catalogue, and doesn’t include day one games, but will include Xbox Live Gold for multiplayer. While, current users of Xbox Game Pass for Console will continue to enjoy their subscription, including day one games and access to hundreds of titles in the back catalogue.
Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will remain unchanged, but will undergo a price increase. It will still include PC Game Pass, day one game releases, hundreds of back catalogue titles, and cloud gaming.
