The much-anticipated first anniversary celebration of Wuthering Waves has been met with widespread disappointment from the player community following the Version 2.3 livestream reveal of the anniversary rewards. Players have voiced frustration across social media platforms, primarily citing underwhelming offerings that fail to properly commemorate the game’s milestone.
The core of player dissatisfaction centers on the absence of a free limited 5-star character or selector, which many considered standard practice for gacha game anniversaries. Instead, Kuro Games offered a standard banner selector, which longtime players found lacking in value as most endgame teams revolve around limited characters.
“A standard banner selector doesn’t cost Kuro anything really,” noted one Reddit user, highlighting the perception that the company missed an opportunity to generate goodwill within its community.
The special anniversary banner, featuring past 5-star characters, has become another focal point of criticism. Despite being marketed as an anniversary feature, the banner retains the standard 80 pity count and 50/50 chance mechanics found in regular banners.
“The ‘anniversary banner system’ feels very underwhelming,” wrote one player. “It doesn’t feel like this was made with the players in mind.” Many suggested improvements such as reducing the pity count to 40 pulls, guaranteeing the first 5-star character, or offering discounted pull rates.
Particularly contentious was the lack of guaranteed characters on the anniversary banner. “My only and biggest complaint: The banners were not mentioned to be 100% guaranteed,” emphasized another player, expressing frustration that even anniversary reruns would still risk 50/50 losses. While the community remains divided on how to respond to the situation, with some advocating for measured feedback and others expressing deeper disappointment, most agree that Kuro Games has missed an opportunity to celebrate its player base’s support throughout the game’s first year.
