If you’ve been lurking around the various Genshin Impact communities, you have likely heard a lot – and I mean, a lot – of discussion over miHoYo and their security practices. Here’s just some of them:
- E-mail addresses apparently not being censored when you log in to their website
- Co-op issues where your account can apparently be stolen simply by having randoms join your world or vice versa
- That phishing attempt from a while back
… and the latest fiasco, someone’s account getting hacked, and despite providing evidence, the thief gets to keep the account because they have spent money on the ill-gotten account. Whoever the person responding to the issue, it appears to be quite… dubious at best:
However, after from the time your account is taken by someone, there are many Top-up after that, and this is dispute account situation, so that we couldn’t help in this situation
The account owner has provided a video to prove the veracity of the ticket response, as there have also been instances of the text being altered in other occasions. You can find it via the primary reddit thread here.
It’s not the first time there’s been an uproar over miHoYo’s security practices, the lack of 2FA notwithstanding, and this one just seems to take the cake. The community has also been wrestling over Zhongli, which is another story really, and this entire thing is just Not A Very Good Look.
The game itself has earned 400 million on mobile alone, and many have pointed out this isn’t miHoYo’s first title by any stretch. Will there finally be enough pressure for them to implement any significant changes? We’ll have to wait and find out.
