Following recent scrutiny by Malaysia’s Film Censorship Board, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 has been rated as 18+ due to its abundance of gruesome and violent scenes.
Despite this, the horror slasher film has managed to avoid censorship and will air in local cinemas without any cuts or edits made to the film, albeit with a warning dissuading easily disturbed people and pregnant women from watching it.
Local film distributor, Mega Films Distribution, confirmed through GSC and TGV cinemas that the film will be released completely uncut nationwide. The film, which became a global sensation last year due to its dark take on the classic childhood cartoon, is set to premiere ahead of neighboring countries, including Singapore and Thailand.
In this sequel, the bloodthirsty version of Winnie the Pooh, joins forces with other iconic characters such as Piglet and Tigger, venture out of the Hundred Acre Wood once again to seek revenge on the town of Ashdown following the events of the first movie. The movie also pays homage to several classic horror films including It, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween and Happy Death Day.
Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 will be available to watch without censorship in Malaysian cinemas from 10 April 2024.
