Who’s who in Granblue Fantasy: Versus? Starter line-up introduction (Part 2)

Part of the draw for long-time Granblue Fantasy fans are the characters, so if you aren’t familiar, here’s their key points! WHO IS SHE?

A girl who hails from a mist-shrouded island. She has four ghostly pets who aid her in Versus. It’s somewhat an open secret now that she herself is a ghost, having passed on an undetermined time ago, but somehow remaining in the world. She had a sickly sister who left the island to get better, who has herself certainly died by now. This lonely girl has found company among the crew, now able to move on and journey through the world she had not seen while she was alive.

WHAT DOES SHE DO IN THE MAIN GAME?

She’s capable of doing damage, as well as buffing the team. One of her original SSR’s use is to boost the team’s Charge Attack damage, the other being providing guaranteed triple attack. She has received a Grand series version that can provide a very powerful buff to a single character, apart from her team buffs too.

STORY EVENTS SHE’S INVOLVED IN

Ferry has not gotten a focus event thus far strictly on her, but has appeared during the Halloween season. She has her story arc in the main story, and is gradually returning to plot critical developments as well. She has her own character CD, Sora no Michishirube, with an associated Fate Episode and character outfit.

LOWAIN

WHO IS HE?

Self-styled Casanova, but now with eyes only for Katalina. He’s one of those cool bros, never seen without his fellow bros Elsam and Tomoi. He’s an incredible cook to boot, and could certainly be a catch, if he didn’t already have his eyes set on one woman. The bros are easy going but when things get Serious, they Try serious.

WHAT DOES HE DO IN THE MAIN GAME?

As a playable character, all of Lowain’s units lean further on the gimmick side than to be of any “practical” use. This plays into his GBVS character, with plenty of tricks up his sleeves. Lowain tends to get bonuses when he’s in the same party as Katalina, to reflect his undying love for her.

STORY EVENTS HE’S INVOLVED IN

Lowain and his fellow bros are highlighted in their own series of events, mostly focused on their chillness, talking off the cuff and just lowkey things.

LADIVA

WHO IS SHE?

The star wrestler of the Jewel Casino Resort, Ladiva is large and full of life with a creed to live and give love. Her massive stature belies her gentle nature. Make no mistake though, when she needs to throw down, she absolutely will. She IS the star wrestler, for a reason. Count on her to absolutely smother you in love as she works to spread happiness in her wake. Her name in Japanese is “Fastiva”.

WHAT DOES SHE DO IN THE MAIN GAME?

She provides debuffs and buffs up her teammates, befitting her character. Her first two SR versions is capable of inflicting the Charm effect which, on activating, prevents a foe from attacking. She loses the ability to Charm foes in her SSR version, but she can Stun them instead, rendering them completely immobile.

STORY EVENTS SHE’S INVOLVED IN

Received the spotlight in the No Rain, No Rainbow event, further developing her caring character as well as dropping in a lot of cameos of characters who haven’t had the chance to be featured.

METERA

WHO IS SHE?

Your very alluring big sister, Metera flirts easily and doesn’t try to sound modest. An incredibly powerful archer to boot, Metera possesses her village’s ancestral weapon that only further enhances her lethality… if she took it more seriously. She gives off the impression of being flighty, but she does worry over her younger sister, Sutera, in her own way. She’ll take down her opponents several pegs with ease in killer clothes and heels.

WHAT DOES SHE DO IN THE MAIN GAME?

Metera is capable of high nuke damage with her skills, while also having high base damage once she lets loose, so to speak. She provides debuffs along with those nukes. Her weapon type does not have much support in the main game, so may seem lackluster in certain contexts.

STORY EVENTS SHE’S INVOLVED IN

She along with her sister, Sutera, and so-called adoptive sister, Aster, have their focus event in Yesterday’s Scars and Tomorrow’s Hope. It delves into their hometown, and provides more context to their backstories. Metera has also appeared in a Christmas sidestory.

ZETA

WHO IS SHE?

A fiery weapons contractor with a weapon capable of slaying primal beasts. Zeta is the sole wielder of the Spear of Arvess, and is part of an organization simply called The Society. In her line of work, she has to practice a level of secrecy as she tracks down an enemy merely known as The Foe to prevent them from stirring up chaos. Her partners include Vaseraga, who is also in this game, alongside other contractors like Beatrix, Eustace and Ilsa. The nature of their weapons and their enemy are both shrouded in mystery, and they’d all want some answers.

WHAT DOES SHE DO IN THE MAIN GAME?

Zeta specializes in bringing the hurt, and not being very durable herself. She can apply her unique Arvess Fremare debuff for bonus damage. She can also provide some debuffs which can sometimes be situational. Whatever it is, she’ll be swinging that spear.

STORY EVENTS SHE’S INVOLVED IN

As part of The Society, she can often be called in to their series of events with varying levels of focus. It is highly recommended to read the Society events in order as some things can get obtuse.

VASERAGA

WHO IS HE?

A hulking Draph who was horribly scarred in an incident that took out the rest of his crew. He is the contractor of the Great Scythe Grynoth. His body has received enhancement and is virtually indestructible now. He still has survivor’s guilt, and starts off curt, but over the years has learnt to truly care for the crew. Initially bristly with Zeta, it would seem he’s mellowed out with not just the crew, but his fellow contractors as well within the Society.

WHAT DOES HE DO IN THE MAIN GAME?

Vaseraga is there to stand in battle, give hits and take hits and never die. He can direct hits to himself, perform all-foe attacks and really just swing that scythe around. If you need a tank with raw damage, Vaseraga’s your man.

STORY EVENTS HE’S INVOLVED IN

Just like Zeta, as part of the Society, he also gets varying degrees of focus in the series of events. The events below are in order:
