Monkey King is a very famous character that is being created in multiple titles like DOTA 2 and League of Legends. With the Chinese myth of it being one of the most strongest being, he is definitely a challenger that fits in different realms. Monkey King has also a role in a lot of films or drama based of the mostly connected “Journey to the West” entry.
Monkey King is a character that can sometimes be named as Sun Wukong or Wukong in Chinese. He is more famous in his capability to challenge other god’s will and winning them in his skilled Chinese Martial Arts. He is both skilled in combat and smart in defense.
So, recently there’s another game called “Monkey King: Hero is back” released on Steam and for PS4. We got interested in the theme of the game and since it was mentioned to be an accurate story towards the box office movie in China, check out the PV
This game is a creation based off the 2015 hot selling box office animated movie in China. The game is created by HexaDrive Inc. and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment and Oasis Games. The game is available for PS4 and PC via Steam.
The game starts with an exploration that will bring you to where Sun Wukong has been sealed for at least 500 years. The monk who’s exploring was looking around an accidentally broke the seal and released Sun Wukong. At that moment, Wukong only wanted a peaceful life. Due to the unforeseen circumstances, he decide to break another seal and regain his “Qitian DaSheng” abilities.
Monkey King: Hero is Back is an action packed adventure game that features a somewhat evolving system for you to grow Wukong. Of course, in this game you play as the character Wukong where you travel and encounter difficulties that you need to punch through. As for freedom, the game is pretty decent in their combat system. The game allows a lot of mechanics that will let you dive deep into how a Monkey King can give you tons of trouble.
You are also able to use objects in your surrounding as a weapon like the bench on the road, rocks and more. I would say this is one of their most promising mechanism in the whole game with the possible diversify attack patterns, but, the attacks are the same in patterns and it felt very lack luster.
With the seals slowly unlocking after each boss you defeated, it will enhance Wukong and allow more skills to be activated.
Personally, I think the game could’ve been way better if given that they improve the world building and the combat system.
Monkey King: Hero is Back is available in PC and PS4 that includes subtitles for Simplified Chinese, Korean, English. PS4 version will cost you RM169 and PC version will cost you RM148.
