SEGA has announced Revolve8: Episodic Dueling, a real-time strategy game for mobile a few weeks ago and now it is in the closed beta test phase. We spoke with Makoto Senoo from SEGA, who works with the Revolve8 producer Masayoshi Kikuchi and character designer Koji Igarashi to tell us more about the game.
With the aim to “bring the fun of real-time strategy to as many people as possible”, Revolve8 will be free-to-play and is planned to release worldwide. However, the game will be available in only specific regions first before it will roll out globally. The team is planning to have 40 characters (heroes) at launch, while about 30 characters are getting featured in the CBT now.
As some of you might already know, the game allows players to build their decks from the 4 card types – Heroes, Buildings, Minions and Magic. We are curious about whether the cards will come in different tiers like Common, Rare and Legendary, Makoto Senoo confirms that there will be different tiers, but since each character has their unique strengths and weaknesses, the tiers aren’t the only factor that decides how strong a character is.
There will be only one server for everyone including the global and Japanese players. The game will also have a guild system, you can request cards from your guild members or donate cards to the others. A seasonal ranking system with rewards will be available as well. On our question about time-limited exclusive card packs, Makoto Senoo tells us that it is in their plan, but none have been finalized for now.
We see the potential in Revolve8 to become an eSports competitive game, and joining the eSports scene is one of the biggest goals for the Revolve8 team too. However, for now their first priority is to get as many players from around the world to enjoy the game together. It is even better if you play the game with your friends!
We asked about the possibilities for Revolve8 to collaborate with other SEGA games (such as SHIN MEGAMI TENSEI Dx2), Makoto Senoo says that there is a possibility for them to do so, and the fans are welcomed to leave suggestions on collaborations on their Facebook page (they will check out the comments frequently). The page is also available in both English and Traditional Chinese so that everyone can get the updates instantly.
Of course, as a fan, we can’t wait to know more about the release date for Revolve8 as well. Makoto Senoo tells us that the actual release date is not set yet, but it is going to be out in late 2018 or early 2019 depending on the results of the CBT.
Lastly, here is a shoutout to the fans by Masayoshi Kikuchi and Koji Igarashi:
