Games Workshop has announced Warhammer 40K Chaos Gate Daemonhunters, a new turn based RPG based on the mysterious Grey Knights.
As part of the Warhammer SKULLS event, Games Workshop have shown off a short teaser, showcasing the Grey Knights and all the things that set them apart from other Space Marines- their arm-mounted Storm Bolters, Force Javelins as well as their Terminator-clad Paladins.
According to their description, Warhammer 40K Chaos Gate Daemonhunters will be available some time in 2022, though a more specific release date wasn’t named. The game will launch on PC, with no mention of a console release.
The Grey Knights
For those unfamiliar, Space Marines are split up into multiple chapters, each with their own histories, traditions and culture. The Grey Knights are the 666th of these chapters, existing in secrecy as they do battle against Daemons from the Warp. Since the existence of Daemons themselves are regarded sensitive information in Warhammer 40K’s Imperium of Man, the average citizen should have no clue of these space knights’ existence.
Their other feature is that the Grey Knights are exclusively made of Psykers, having powers akin to magic in the space fantasy entry in the Warhammer IP. There’s been no mention of how this will affect Daemonhunter’s gameplay, but it’s so embedded in the chapter’s identity that it would make no sense to leave it out.
There’s a lot of Space Marine-based games in the Warhammer universe, from mobile strategy game Lost Crusade to the third-person shooter Space Marine to even the first-person Space Hulk Deathwing.
