Not to be confused with Eternity and the Auto Memory Doll, Violet Evergarden: The Movie is the second film in the adaptation of the original light novel series by Kyoto Animation that will soon be available through Netflix. The studio has also done the earlier anime adaptation and the first film of the light novel, featuring the titular Violet Evergarden, a former child soldier who now works as an “Auto Memory Doll”, where one typically ghostwrites letters for others. Carrying her major’s “I love you” with her, she embarks on a journey to understand those words and find her purpose in an unfamiliar time of peace. Watch the trailer below:
As the world moves on from the war and technological advances bring changes to her life, Violet still hopes to see her lost commanding officer again.
Violet Evergarden: The Movie originally released in Japan in September 2020, and will finally be available for international audiences on 13 October 2021. Fans of the anime and earlier film should be able to expect to weep copious tears for whatever is to come.
The 13-episode anime, special episode, and first film are also all available to watch on Netflix, should you like to binge and prepare for the emotional compromise.
