Remember the game by Valve that was announced last week for mobile, Artifact? The game that is based off the DoTA2 universe runs on Valve’s Source 2 Engine. That means Valve had successfully ported the graphics engine to work on mobile! Because of its successful port, Gabe Newell (Lord Gaben) also mentioned that they ran DoTA2 on tablets as well! Though it’s super difficult to control (as expected).
While this is big news and a stepping stone for Valve to work on more mobile games in the future, we were also theorizing if they would port less complicated games over to the mobile like Portal, Team Fortress or others that run on Source 2. With giant publishers like Square Enix porting console games onto mobile as well, it may be high time Valve did the same thing as well. Since it’s nothing new already with Fornite coming to mobile and supports cross-play with Xbox One and PC as well, it’s also possible for games like Portal or Team Fortress 2 or even Left4Dead have that support as well.
Though playing on mobile may be difficult, but hey, you can always bring your wireless controller as well if you don’t fancy rubbing your thumbs on your mobile screen (here’s how to connect your PS4 controller to your mobile). Since we’ll always bring our mobile phones along everywhere we go and a controller is small enough to bring around, it’s pretty convenient if you’re an avid gamer. Nonetheless, lets keep our fingers crossed for Valve to make their move further into the mobile gaming world.
