As the Japanese release of NieR Re[in]carnation approaches on 18 February 2021, the English release had no substantial updates, until now. In a letter released on the official English Twitter account for NieR ReIn, director Daichi Matsukawa said the following:
NieR Re[in]carnation Director Daichi Matsukawa here. My apologies for the lack of updates – please allow me to expain the current development status of the English version of NieR Re[in]carnation to those who are awaiting its release in North America and Europe.
We are currently in the process of localizing the English version and recording all character voices in English. We also plan to fix bugs following the game’s Japanese release so we can launch the English version in tip-top shape.
Once dates are confirmed for preregistration and launch, we will send out another announcement to let everyone know.
I apologize again for the long wait and any inconvenience this may cause, and ask for your understanding and patience.February 8, 2021
Director Daichi Matsukawa
Localized gacha games from Japan, or from other countries for that matter, don’t typically receive English or multiple language dubs, so the fact that NieR ReIn would be receiving the whole works treatment like how it would for console games is quite impressive. As for the bug fixes, we’re sure everyone’s keenly familiar with launch day hiccups, with servers crashing from the sheer number of people trying to get into the game, bugs aside. Hopefully the fixes and the localization won’t be taking too long, but honestly, better they delay it instead of pushing out a half-baked product.
Meanwhile, the Japanese release has hit 800,000 pre-registrations, so that gold Mama statue seems to be on the horizon… one wonders if the same item would be available for the English-speaking world? We’ll have to wait and find out.
