As the release of Magic: The Gathering’s Duskmourn set approaches, we’re excited to preview a new card: Balustrade Wurm. This powerful green creature promises to shake up the battlefield. Balustrade Wurm is a formidable 5/5 creature that comes with a suite of powerful abilities. Its base cost makes it a mid-game threat that can immediately impact the board state.
The static ability, “This spell can’t be countered,” ensures that Balustrade Wurm will resolve, providing reliability against control decks. Combined with Trample and Haste, this Wurm can deal significant damage as soon as it enters the battlefield.
Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of Balustrade Wurm is its Delirium ability. For 2GG, you can return it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a finality counter, provided you have four or more card types in your graveyard. This ability offers potential for recursion and late-game resilience, though it requires careful deck building to maximize its effectiveness.
Balustrade Wurm appears to be a strong addition to green-based midrange and graveyard-focused strategies in the upcoming Duskmourn set. Its combination of immediate board presence and potential for recursion makes it a versatile threat that opponents will need to answer multiple times.
And that’s it for this round’s card preview! The MTG Duskmourn set, launching on September 27, 2024 will have Balustrade Wurm available in Play boosters and Collector boosters. Our thanks to Wizards of the Coast for allowing us to preview this card ahead of the set’s release.
