Look, I’m gonna level with you. There are tiers to the kind of video game swag you can get. In these hallowed halls, customized consoles are pretty high up there, letting you think about your favorite games even if you’re not currently playing them.
We got to check out the special Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Edition PS5, highlighting all the angst of Peter Parker in the next big Insomniac title. The limited edition console’s available for purchase from September 8th, so if you’re one of the lucky few who pre ordered from the select retailers and are getting your web-slinging hands on it then consider yourself very lucky.
Considering how much we know about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is tied to the Venom story line, it seems like a shoe-in that that’s what this special edition would embody. The console has these gorgeous red and black faceplates, made to look like your console had been overtaken by black alien goop.
Of course, it’s not just a simple colored plate. Instead, the plate features the goopy black tendrils overtaking the otherwise-red face plate, with a neat little Spider-emblem in the last safe corner.
Unfortunately this cool turf war is only on one side of the face plate, with the back of the console instead being a smooth rich black that makes you check the room for Tobey Macguire or Topher Grace. They’ve clearly gone for the more minimalist approach, but it does help in displaying the console since you don’t have to worry about the back of the console possibly having the best parts.
Just like with the regular faceplates the PS logo is also still in black, so it doesn’t really show up unless you have a sick lighting setup to flaunt its glossy finish, as compared to the rest of the plate.
Of course, what’s a good console without an equally snazzy controller. These motifs are all matched in the Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Edition Controller, which also sees the Symbiote trying to corrupt it. Considering the creeping design here goes let to right, it does look a little better here since now one half of your controller is your typical Spider-Man red while the other half is doing sick dances while walking down a street. I’m also a big fan of the pure white spider-emblem’s placement, too- the center screen of the Dualsense was built for showing off these cool designs and it does it well here;.
If you’re not quite in the habit of picking up a new console, don’t fret! PlayStation have announced the faceplates and controller are available separately for purchase. That being said, the full set is a great gift for the Spider-fan in your life, since the PS5 includes a code for the game, redeemable when Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 launches in October. There’s also the stunning Collector’s Edition to look forward to, for you real web-heads out there.
