Supermassive Games, the developers behind Until Dawn, is reportedly about to lay off 30% of its workforce.
According to Bloomberg, Supermassive Games has informed 150 staff members that they are ‘at risk of redundancy’, and the company will lay off roughly 90 people.
This layoff would mean that Supermassive Games will be removing 90 people from its 300-person workforce, which is 30% of what the company currently has.
Soon after, Supermassive Games released their statement regarding the layoff on X/Twitter.

In the statement, Supermassive Games admits that the current games industry is facing significant challenges and that they are not immune to the effects.
The company is now undertaking a reorganization, and they express “As a result, we are entering into a period of consultation, which we anticipate will result in the loss of some of our colleagues.”
Additionally, the company also emphasizes that the decision was made after many efforts to avoid the outcome and that they will continue to focus their efforts on core strengths and upcoming titles.
“We are all too aware of how unsettling and difficult this process is going to be for all our employees and will be working closely with all those involved to ensure the process is conducted as respectfully and compassionately as possible,” the statement reads.
“We’re committed to focusing our efforts on our core strengths and upcoming titles to ensure the continued sustainability of the company.”
The layoff came 3 months after the company was revealed to be joining forces with Behaviour Interactive to create the single-player spin-off to Dead by Deadlight, The Casting of Frank Stone.
Over the past year, we have seen a huge rise in disheartening layoff news in the gaming industry, affecting companies of all sizes such as those from Unity, Embracer Group, Riot Games, and Disco Elysium Studio ZA/UM, to name a few.
