A movie adaptation of the 2015 interactive horror drama game Until Dawn is currently in the works with filmmaker David F. Sandberg at the helm.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, David F. Sandberg, the Swedish director best known for the superhero flick Shazam!, is returning to his horror roots and signed a deal to direct a movie adaptation of Until Dawn.
Apart from his coming-to-age superhero venture, Sandberg is also best known for his horror films, starting his career with several horror shorts such as “Closet Space” before his Hollywood featured debut with “Lights Out” and his contribution as director to “Annabelle: Creation”, an entry in the Conjuring horror franchise.
Joining him is screenwriter Gary Dauberman, who had worked with Sandberg in the past with Annabelle: Creation, and is known for his work in many well-known horror movie franchises such as It, The Nun, and Annabelle.
The movie adaptation will be produced by Screen Gems and PlayStation Productions, with the former describing it as an R-rated love letter to the horror genre, centering on an ensemble cast.
Developed by Supermassive Games, Until Dawn itself is an interactive drama game that focuses on eight friends who have to make decisions to survive on Blackwood Mountain with a killer on the loose.
The game utilized motion capture performances and featured noteworthy actors, including Rami Malek, who you may or may not recognize as Freddie Mercury in 2018’s Bohemian Rhapsody, a biopic about the frontman of Queen.
Several other noteworthy actors who appear in the game include Brett Dalton, Hayden Panettiere, and Peter Stormare, just to name a few.
As of writing, it is still yet to be confirmed if any of the actors will reprise their roles in the Until Dawn movie adaptation.
