Multiple sources have reported that a new Death Note game, by the name of Death Note: Killer Within has just gotten its ratings from the Taiwan Digital Game Rating Committee. This happened months after Shueisha was first reported to have filed in a trademark back in the month of June for the “Death Note: Killer Within” name. Similar reports have confirmed that Bandai Namco is expected to be the publisher of the new game.
When checking with the board listing from the Taiwan Digital Game Rating Committee, the translation of the name comes out as “Death Note: Shadow Mission” but this could be due to direct translation quirks. However, the new Death Note game may be called Death Note: Killer Within as trademarked by Shueisha in Europe, Japan and the United States months earlier.
As the game is still unannounced, we will just have to wait and see its eventual official reveal whenever it comes. Regardless, this will be something for fans of the iconic anime series to look forward to as there have been very few video game adaptations of the fan-favourite franchise.
The last game that was based on the series was all the way back in 2008 with L the ProLogue to Death Note: Spiraling Trap, a story set before the Kira investigation featured in the original manga. This is a game that completed a trilogy of Death Note games available on the Nintendo DS and releasing between 2007-2008.
