Netflix has put out a teaser for Ultraman Rising, the newest animated movie based on the iconic Japanese hero.
Ultraman Rising is an upcoming animated movie directed by Kubo And The Two Strings’ Shannon Tindle and John Aoshima, set for release on Netflix some time in 2024.
As part of Netflix Geeked Week, they’ve put out a teaser for the upcoming film.
The teaser focuses on Ken Sato, baseball player turned host for Ultraman- however, rather than being about defeating the next big kaiju or the possibility that nukes might be bad, Rising has a new premise: raising a baby kaiju.
The catch here is that the kaiju itself only sees Ultraman as its parent- turning hostile the moment he turns back into Ken.
While the previous Ultraman anime focused on having a more motion-capture feel to it, it looks like Rising will instead be focusing on a more stylized approach, full of fancy 2D effects.
Netflix has sported a broad portfolio of projects based on popular Japanese IP- 2023 saw the launch of the live-action One Piece, and they’ve already started teasing promotional materials for the live-action Yu Yu Hakusho.
Meanwhile on the animated end, they’ve also picked up shows like the anime adaptation of Naoki Urasawa’s Pluto, with a Devil May Cry adaptation in the pipeline as well.
