In conjunction with the soon-to-be-aired Netflix-exclusive anime ULTRAMAN, Tsuburaya Productions announced that it will also be releasing a mobile game with the working title ULTRAMAN: BE ULTRA. The game is scheduled for a release in Spring 2020, with pre-registrations already opened.
Signature characters from the series namely Seiji Hokuto, Dan Moroboshi and Shinjiro Hayata will be making their appearance here. Gameplay details remain unknown but the developer did make a sneak peek available during parts of the video.
If you head over to either LINE or Twitter right now, you will be able to pre-register and be rewarded accordingly with in-game premium currency in the form of Spacium. Furthermore, an unannounced UR character will be given out as a reward. Details will be provided later on as we head towards the release date.
In any case, let us take a few steps back and see what the gameplay in ULTRAMAN: BE ULTRA entails. From the looks of it, the game appears to be some strategy RPG hybrid that would be apt for series like Ultraman. That way, the roster can be filled accordingly with an assortment of characters with their own strengths and weaknesses. Needless to say, gacha will be a focal point of the game, so it would be interesting how appealing people in latex outfits are to the average gamer. It is clear that hardcore fans will want to give this a shot either way, but the designs seem quite a departure from the usual Ultraman designs. At first glance, it would appear that we are looking at a Gridman game than something Ultraman. That could be a good or bad thing depending on which camp you are, although props to the franchise for trying a new look for our 50-year old hero.
