The Guerilla Collective showed off the award-winning game Ugly today during their presentation, sure to tickle the fancy of anyone with a love of creepy platformers with action elements.
Made by the similarly-named Team Ugly, the game looks like a mix of titles like Braid and Binding of Isaac-featuring a mechanic that revolves around a mirror where what you do in the reflection also affects what happens in the “real” world.
Where the Isaac comes in is the game’s seeming focus around trauma- while not much has actually been confirmed about the game, the trailer does seem to imply that this is all based around the main character’s own past and possibly self-image issues.
There’s not much information available for Ugly just yet though- but from what we’ve seen, the game will feature bossfights, as well as some truly mind-bending puzzles as you make use of your mirror to do what the game asks of you.
It also features gorgeously animated sprites- such as with the one 2D boss shown off during the game’s trailer, which make up big setpieces in the game.
It will launch some time in 2023 for PC, Mac and Consoles, though the game’s already won awards at shows like PSTalents as well as Indie Games Malaga.
