The publisher of the Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry series, Ubisoft is in partnership with blockchain firm Immutable to develop web3 games.
According to the official announcement, Ubisoft has partnered up with Immutable, the blockchain gaming company known for Gods Unchained and Guild of Guardians to combine their expertise in developing web3 games through the Strategic Innovation Lab.
“As the platform of choice for many leaders within the Web3 community, Immutable offers both cutting-edge technology and a unique expertise in seamlessly integrating decentralized technologies into games,” said Nicolas Pouard, Vice-President of Ubisoft’s Strategic Innovation Lab and Head of its Blockchain Initiative.
“We’re excited to partner with them and look forward to bringing that level of fluidness within a full-fledged game, so players only have to focus on the fun of the experience.”
James Ferguson, Immutable CEO and Co-Founder then added, “Partnering with Ubisoft is a defining landmark for Immutable.”
“We couldn’t be more excited to explore with Ubisoft the benefits of web3 and digital ownership for players.”
“We plan to bring the full weight of our ecosystem to bear to ensure the partnership’s success. We are confident that we will bring to life a fresh new experience that players will love.”
This partnership followed Ubisoft’s statement in an interview with Gameindustry.biz that notes that the company is moving away from blockchain technologies, as well as the publisher halting update support for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Breakpoint including the blockchain items of Ubisoft Quartz last year.
