Ubisoft has just announced Project Q, a new multiplayer game that they have felt the need to highlight will have no battle royale gameplay or NFT implementation. Yes, the fact that they had to point that out is pretty sad in its own right.
Ubisoft’s reputation is no longer what it used to be. Although it’s still a prominent gaming company with a variety of profitable franchises, it has been the source of much controversy including a bad work environment and endorsement of NFTs. Efforts to stay relevant are certainly still there, this new announcement of a new multiplayer game with the tentative title Project Q.
The official Twitter account says that Project Q is a multiplayer game with team battle arena gameplay. The development process has only just begun, but they have already opened registration access for players interested in participating in a series of tests in the future.
So, we heard you heard… 🤷
Introducing codename “Project Q”, a team battle arena letting players truly own the experience! The game is in early development and we will keep testing, so for now all you can do is register for upcoming tests: https://t.co/TMRKwiUzbJ pic.twitter.com/hZ40OkPdum

The announcement was followed by a variety of skeptical responses to various aspects of the reveal, such as how one of the game’s captions stated that players will “feel like they really own the experience!” which seemed to indicate the presence of NFTs.
Ubisoft immediately responded and gave several clarifications. They have ensured that the game does not carry the battle royale genre, including that there are no plans to implement NFT into the game. It sounds like a relief, but at the same time, it’s still doubtful, knowing that Ubisoft’s focus is on bringing NFTs to more games. So while Project Q sounds like a safe project right now, we never know what the future holds for it.
Project Q is currently in active development for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PC.
