Update – 04/07/22: Mahoutsukai no Yoru or ‘Witch On The Holy Night’ has received its first English language trailer and has more or less been confirmed to be getting an official localization.
The upcoming Switch and PS4 versions of Type Moon’s visual novel Mahoutsukai no Yoru also known as Witch on The Holy Night are confirmed to feature English, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese language options in addition to the normal Japanese text.
This was announced alongside the news that the game will be released in Japan in December of 2022. A new key visual for the game has also been revealed:
Mahoutsukai no Yoru was originally released for PC in 2012. These enhanced ports will come with HD visuals and full voice acting.
Here are the voice cast that have been revealed so far:
- Aoko Aozaki: Haruka Tomatsu
- Alice Kuonji: Kana Hanazawa
- Soujuurou Shizuki: Yuusuke Kobayashi
- Kojika Kumari: Chika Anzai
- Tobimaru Tsukiji: Toshinari Fukamachi
- Housuke Kinomi: Shohei Kajikawa
The fact that Mahoutsukai no Yoru is getting English language support is significant as it will be the first pure visual novel by Type-Moon and Kinoko Nasu to get an official release in a non-Japanese language.
Nasu has previously stated that he would be interested in bringing English and Chinese language support to Tsukihime – A Piece of Blue Glass Moon but that it would be very difficult due to how text-heavy the novel is.
The fact that this latest title will be getting different language versions bodes well for Type Moon’s other visual novels. Perhaps we could even get the Tsukihime Remake officially translated into English sometime down the line.
Mahoutsukai no Yoru will be released in Japan in December of 2022. There is no confirmation of an international release but if the game features English and Chinese language support then speakers of these languages will be able to import that game and play it as both the Switch and PS4 are region-free consoles.
The visual novel will also be getting a movie adaptation in 2023, being done by Studio Ufotable who had previously worked with Type-Moon for the anime adaptations of Fate/Zero and Fate/Stay Night.
