A new Shin Ultraman Figure has been revealed by Bandai Namco that measures up to around two foot or 60 centimeters in height.
The figure official named the “Jumbo Soft Vinyl Figure Ultraman” will cost 35,200 yen. It will release in Febuary 2022.
Here are some pictures of the figure at different angles:
This figure was designed based on and made the promote the upcoming movie Shin Ultraman, a new Ultraman movie set in a new continuity, directed by Hideaki Anno, the creator of Neon Genesis Evangelion and Shin Godzilla.
The movie was originally supposed to release this year in 2021 to coincide with the franchise’s 55th anniversary which is supposed to be this year but it was delayed into an unspecified release date due to the covid-19 pandemic. This movie will also shortly be followed by another ‘Shin’ style tokusatsu reimagining, Shin Kamen Rider, also directed by Anno which will release in 2023.
The design of this Ultraman was based on a sketch by Anno which was made in 2018. Anno had previously directed a fan-made Ultraman short film called “Return of Ultraman” when he was still a film student.
The 2 foot tall Shin Ultraman Figure is currently available for pre-order on Rakuten.
It’s a little on the expensive side being 35,200 yen ($350/MYR1288) but you do get a lot of Ultraman for that price.
