One of the more stressful parts of streaming for a living is the unreliable income, Twitch however is implementing a new program to make it easier called the ‘Ad Incentive Program’ or AIP for short.
The Ad Incentive Program is a new program that will pay selected streamers a fixed minimum amount of ad revenue every month. Twitch affiliates that qualify for this program will be notified by Twitch and will be offered different payouts based on the number of ads run and total hours streamed.
Twitch says that “having a reliable floor of ad revenue should enable you to better plan for the future, whatever that may look like. We hope it’s an important step towards empowering creators.”
Additionally, the AIP will also come with an ad management feature that allows users to control where the ads are placed during a stream which will alleviate the burden of having time breaks.
Twitch says that the amount that they will pay each streamer will depend on the specific streamer however there will be no cap potential to earn more income. A streamer can earn more by Streaming more beyond their minimum required hours.
The AIP is a way for Twitch to encourage streamers to make content without having to worry about the constant headache of an unreliable income. Income for streamers can heavily fluctuate due to having to rely on donations and subscriptions for revenue.
It would be greatly beneficial to streamers if the Ad Incentive Program could act as a kind of universal basic income for streamers and encourage them to keep making content in a stable and secure manner, without the fear of low ad revenue.
You can look at Twitch’s blog post on the subject which includes steps on how to apply for the program and more details on what it involves for streamers.
