Bandai Namco has recently announced SD Gundam G Generation Cross Ray for PS4, Switch, and PC in Japan and Asia. During the Taipei Game Show 2019, we are lucky to be able to have a talk with the development director, Yoshiki Miyagi and producer, Kensuke Tsukanaka. They have told us some interesting details on the game story and launch window, so check them out below!
Out of our expectations, the different universes in SD Gundam G Generation Cross Ray don’t cross each other. The game content progress along with the storyline so players can experience the story to the fullest. However, you can still battle using mechs from different universes on the same battlefield. The producers tell us that they wanted to add After War Gundam X to the game as well, but it couldn’t make it due to various issues.
SD Gundam G Generation Cross Ray is the first title in the series to get a PC release. When asked about the reason to finally release the title on PC, the producers say that they knew there are many fans on the PC platform as well and they decided to release it on PC so more players would be able to enjoy the game. They would like to challenge themselves a bit by developing the game for more platforms.
Of course, developing the game for PC is not an easy task as each players’ PC comes in different specifications. The team has been working hard to make sure that every player (with different PC specs) can get the same gaming experience. Although the game features 4 universes, you can choose to start playing from any of the universes you like. For example, if you like the SEED series, you can start the game from the universe of SEED.
The game is featuring the original story plots including the story of Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans. But as most of you know, basically every character dies in the ending of Iron-Blooded Orphans. We are curious about whether the exact ending will be presented in the game, and the producers’ answer is yes. Players will be able to experience the original story including the part where everyone dies.
The producers refused to comment about DLC as they have no detailed plan yet. For now, they are focusing on balancing the number of mechs from the 4 universes. There might be some unannounced mechs or hidden mechs too, but the producers can’t tell us the details yet.
Lastly, the producers are expecting for SD Gundam G Generation Cross Ray to release “before the weather turns cold”, so hopefully we can enjoy the game sooner! SD Gundam G Generation Cross Ray is arriving for Nintendo Switch, PS4 and PC in 2019.
Special thanks to Acer for giving us the chance to attend Taipei Game Show 2019!
