Tower of Fantasy was recently caught by netizens in China, as the game tried to boost its own score by stealing reviews from its close competitor Genshin Impact.
One redditor posted photos of the now-deleted most recent reviews of the game from Sensor Tower, showing that someone had obviously scripted a bot to rip reviews from Genshin Impact, editing out any mention of Genshin Impact and replacing it with Tower of Fantasy (Or in this case, it’s Chinese name), being given away primarily by ending its sentences with “,.”.
According to the redditor, the reviews have since been taken down. The developers of Tower Fantasy have not commented on the issue on their Weibo.
At the very least, you can tell these aren’t reviews for Tower of Fantasy. considering one of them begs the game to add some sort of PvP mode- something Tower of Fantasy has but not Genshin.
“I hope there is a PVP mode [Tower of Fantasy], More monsters and more equipment”, the review reads.
The kicker comes in the form of another review, which mentions one user accidentally pulling Yoimiya:
“Originally, I didn’t plan to pull Yoimiya in [Tower of Fantasy]”, the review reads.
Tower Of Fantasy’s History with Genshin Impact
For better or worse, Tower of Fantasy has garnered a reputation as a mobile game defined by miHoYo’s success. The game had always been criticized for its visual similarities to Genshin Impact.
Things only got worse a few weeks back when the team was then caught using assets from miHoYo’s other action game, Honkai Impact 3rd in their new PV.
