Tower of Fantasy and its upcoming EN release is facing a review bomb, as fans who can now access the game have discovered it doesn’t support Simplified Chinese language options.
Over on the Google Play store, Chinese-speaking users have left 1-star reviews, upset that a game that literally launched in Chinese first would exclude the language from its international release.
It should be noted that the reviews don’t show up if your language is set to English.
“The [Chinese] server has been out for so long, and foreigners deliberately don’t give Chinese”, writes Max Lee.
One more comment called out the company for ignoring that there are Chinese speaking users in non-China countries.
“˙No Chinese in the international server? Isn’t your company an overseas Chinese? It’s really disgusting! Every time the Chinese is deliberately removed, the game is obviously Chinese! Don’t you know there are international users too?” writes DEX.Sho.
Tower of Fantasy is a game seemingly unable to escape any kind of controversy- back when the game was only releasing in China, it drew ire for using plagiarized assets from miHoYo’s Honkai Impact 3rd.
However, the review bomb hasn’t quite made a dent in the Tower of Fantasy review score, which still sits at 4.6, likely due to them just not being counted.
As far as reasons to review bomb go, this one is actually pretty fair- More countries than China use Chinese, such as Malaysia and Singapore.
Considering the game launched in the language, it seems almost bizarre to actively remove it from the game’s international release.
