Touken Ranbu has announced a musou game spin-off for the Nintendo Switch, to be made in collaboration with Koei Tecmo. Simply called Touken Ranbu Musou for now, “musou” is a catch-all term for games in the vein of Dynasty Warriors, with popular properties like Persona 5 Strikers and Hyrule Warriors being their respective franchises’ “musou” games.
A teaser website has been opened, with the second unit to be revealed on 18 August 2021. The first unit consists of the franchise’s poster boy, Mikazuki Munechika, flanked by Tonbokiri’s and Sengo Muramasa’s silhouettes. Apparently there will be five units to start, though at present we won’t know if the units are fixed or they’ll be able to be mixed. There will be a total of 15 for the initial wave.
What’s interesting is Ruby Party’s involvement. They work under Koei Tecmo, and are known for their otome games, namely the female-oriented romance genre. Presumably their inclusion would mean the game will have elements to appeal to the female fanbase who are already deeply invested in the various sword personifications.
The game will be available on the Nintendo Switch, and PC via DMM Games Player. We’ll have to see if a publisher decides to localize it for English-speaking audiences, a move made for the browser version of the game.
