Apparently it’s taken just about 25 years for Touhou Project to get a rhythm game in Touhou Danmaku Kagura. The game has been announced for a 2021 release for smartphones i.e. Android and iOS, currently for Japan. It will be published by Unknown X, a group consisting of Aqua Style, DeNA, and Xeen.
Touhou Danmaku Kagura will be featuring many popular arranged songs as you might expect from the deluge of circles to release music every season. It seems the game will also endeavour to reproduce the bullet hell style of the games, blending both a rhythm section and danmaku gameplay. You can watch the trailer below:
Going from the official website, there will be use of Live2D character models, if at least for the story. The characters will be voiced too, though we’ll have to see if the story would be fully voiced. A few of the future card illustrators can be seen here.
Currently revealed characters include:
- Reimu
- Marisa
- Yukari
- Sumireko
- Youmu
… and we can reasonably expect at least up to 40 characters on launch. It would be a nightmare otherwise to include initial cards for the whole cast which goes up to at least 17 games and going strong. Stay tuned to the official website for more circle reveals and more.
