The game is browser-based, and can be played on both mobile and desktop devices. On mobile, it even has touch-screen controls. Additionally, on desktop it supports controllers as well, allowing you to throw down as you see fit.
Similar to many smaller fighting games like Them’s Fighting Herds and Fantasy Strike, the game uses rollback netcode- something that allows the game’s cross-platform matches to be played over greater distances with less interference. that many mainstream fighting games have yet to adopt.
The game has gotten support from the fighting game community, urging fans to check the indie title out, such as “Get Into Fighting Games” host Woolie Madden.
Controls wise, Tough Love Arena has a fairly simple setup, with three attack buttons and no jumping. While this makes for a much more simple game overall, it’s also fairly educational since you won’t have to worry about more complex things like high-low mixups or complicated motion inputs.
The game’s currently in beta, and supports character tutorials, a versus CPU mode as well as multiplayer. You can even watch CPU vs CPU matches to learn the game for yourself. Due to it running on your browser, it’s not particularly intensive, and even the developer has said they’re not sure what the minimum phone specs to run it would be.
