As the Torchlight: Infinite open beta approaches, the game’s talent system gets detailed in a new post from developer X.D Entertainment. The game’s potential build diversity has been a much touted feature, after all, so how does it work?
To summarize:
- Start out by choosing 1 out of 6 basic talent panels, initially focused on increasing damage output. Players will eventually get access to all 6 core talents as well as 2nd and 3rd talent panels, where the builds can really start getting together
- Total of 24 talent category panels, tagged with growth directions. Talents are meant to add to skills and grow with build styles with unique buffs and attributes
- Core talents directly affect skill effects or “overturn” a build through “destruction and reforging” the larger effects that are granted. Attacks can be modified to spread to nearby enemies, or change how a character dual-wields
- Talents bring impactful enhancements that can be customized according to build styles and intentions, from how your character reacts to incoming damage, or stacking buffs
You can try out the talent system yourself in the Torchlight: Infinite open beta launching on iOS and Android this October. Pre-registrations are available through the official website.
For reference, here are the game’s listed features:

- Open character progression – Have the freedom to build your hero exactly the way you want to by combining skills, talents, traits, gear affixes, legendary gears
- Loot, loot, and more loot – Infinite Loot, Infinite stamina, and no skill cooldowns mean only one thing: more action and more loot.
