Tim Burton Exhibition Will Be Coming To KL In March 2023

A new exhibition called ‘The World of Tim Burton’ will be coming to Kuala Lumpur (KL) in March of 2023. The exhibition will feature art, statues, and other details from Burton’s many works over his career.

According to Kol Nation, the Tim Burton Exhibition will be featured in Pavillion Bukit Jalil in KL from the 21st of March to the 30th of July. This will be the first time it has been featured in Southeast Asia.

Tim Burton is known for directing a number of Blockbuster films throughout his career. The most well-known of these include Batman (1989), Edward Scissorhands, Corpse Bride, and his current work on the Netflix series Wednesday. He was also the producer and writer for The Nightmare Before Christmas.

The exhibition will feature over 500 works from Burton. These works will include sketches, paintings photographs, models, and more as they appeared in the director’s various films. These will be split into 10 thematic sections:

• 2: Holidays
• 3: Carnivalesque
• 4: Figurative Works
• 5: Misunderstood Outcast
• 6: Film Characters
• 7: Polaroids
• 8: Around The World
• 9: Unrealized Projects
• 10: Artist’s Studio

“The exhibition reveals an inimitable style that is informed by Burton’s specific perspective. His amalgamations of man, animal, and machine are evocative of an artistically-inclined Dr. Frankenstein with an unfettered imagination. The interplay between horror and humor figures prominently in Burton’s art and films and this theme of the “carnivalesque”—the mixture between comedy and the grotesque—is seen in projects from Batman to Alice in Wonderland (2010). Perhaps his most notable and well-known motif, the soulful melancholy of Burton’s iconic misunderstood outsiders—from Edward Scissorhands and Jack Skellington to the Corpse Bride and Frankenweenie—is deftly expressed in the drawings featured in the exhibition”.

The Exhibition has already toured a number of cities across the world including Tokyo, Prague, Brazil, South Korea, and most recently Taipei in Taiwan.
