TikTok parent company ByteDance has confirmed that it is in talks with Tencent, the world’s biggest gaming company by revenue and other potential buyers of its gaming assets.
According to a report by Reuters on 9th January, talks between the Chinese tech giant and their potential buyers are currently underway, but nothing is set in stone as of yet.
ByteDance and Tencent are discussing a deal involving multiple video game titles published by ByteDance’s gaming unit, Nuverse, which includes titles such as the anime-styled role-playing game “Crystal of Atland”, as well as the sci-fi survival game, “Earth: Revival”, media outlet LatePost reported on 8th January 2024.
ByteDance had previously mentioned in November 2023 that it would be overhauling Nuverse and are retreating from the gaming business to focus on other core businesses, five years after they dip their toes into the video games market.
From the report, Nuverse had stopped working on unreleased games and planned to continue their operations on titles that have already launched to fully protect the rights and interests of players.
This follows the previous report that the company is seeking buyers of their other gaming unit, Moonton, which are the developers of the popular Mobile Legends: Bang Bang game.
