Netflix has released a new teaser, as well as the release date for The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, a prequel to the popular Witcher series.
The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf will release on August 23rd on Netflix.
The story follows Vesemir- a charming Witcher who mentored the series protagonist Geralt. Unlike Netflix’s other Witcher series, however, Nightmare of the Wolf will be fully animated.
Here’s Netflix’s summary for the animated series:
The world of The Witcher expands in this anime origin story: Before Geralt, there was his mentor Vesemir — a swashbuckling young witcher who escaped a life of poverty to slay monsters for coin and glory. But when a strange new monster begins terrorizing a politically-fraught kingdom, Vesemir finds himself on a frightening adventure that forces him to confront the demons of his past.
The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf is written and produced by Beau DeMayo, and co-produced by The Witcher Showrunner and Executive Producer Lauren Schmidt Hissrich and Studio Mir’s Kwang Il Han, who is also directing.

Lots of Witcher For Everyone
The Witcher is currently going through a huge popularity surge. Just last month, Netflix held Witchercon, announcing plenty of information for what was once a humble polish fantasy novel. Now, the IP has grown to multiple games, a multi-season live-action series, as well as an animated prequel. On top of that, they’ve also announced a mobile game, made with the same core mechanics of Pokemon Go.
