Enter the world of daily drama in multi-family lots as a property owner in the For Rent Expansion Pack, coming to The Sims 4 on December 7th, 2023.
Set to feature a slew of new content, the For Rent Expansion Pack is all about you trying your hands at being a property and experiencing drama or tight-knit harmony in The Sims 4. In this expansion, you are allowed to plunge your Sims into a wide range of residential rentals that you constructed, from townhomes and duplexes to apartments.
Welcome to Tomarang
Inspired by the Southeast Asia scenic world, players are introduced to the bustling city of Tomarang, nestled in lush tropical landscapes with lively city skylines. Blending traditional and modern elements, Tomarang is a place to be for your Sims looking for a break from the hustle and bustle of large urban cities.
Here, the Sims can relax in the green haven of botanical gardens, or visit animal sanctuaries to admire lovely critters. Or perhaps leaving incense and fruits at a spirit house to honor and pay respect to the spirit guardian. You can also let little child Sims play Hopscotch and Marbles in parks.
In For Rent, there will be 2 available neighborhoods in Tomarang to populate with your army of Sims, Morensong, and Koh Sahpa.
New Type of Lot
For the first time ever in the Sims 4, a fully customizable multi-unit dwelling where multiple families live in the same lot is now possible with the For Rent expansion pack. Simmers can now get creative as they construct residential rental properties with many families residing in them, whether it’s a basement suite or cozy duplex. Perhaps, spacious apartments for the larger families.
These dwellings feature versatile wooden window shades and homes on stilts near scenic beaches and historical bridges. On the side of the interiors, there are traditional wood carvings and rattan furniture available alongside traditional Southeast Asian-inspired rugs, chairs, tiles, and lamps.
Existing separately from existing apartment lots, Residential Rentals is a new type of lot and offers a different experience with more building freedom. Ever want radiators and AC units working with and without seasons? The model for air conditioning units has also been adjusted so you can have the vent inside and the box on the outside.
Community events have also been expanded with players having the ability to bring their rental communities closer together between potlucks and pool parties. Engage your Sims with their neighbors and bring your community together with your residential rentals. With five new traits, Sims can be nosy, generous, or cringe, and perhaps they are a village child or a wise elder as wisdom comes with age.
New situations and events can also spawn from these Residential Rentals and shared spaces, bringing about more storytelling opportunities.
Property Management
The rental properties also bring forth new opportunities for both property owners and tenants. As property owners, Simmers can choose either to live in the property itself with their tenants or maintain separate residences while generating income from property investments. Fill in your vacancy, control rent amount, lease length, rules, and so on at your fingertips.
Each Residential Rental unit can house a limit of 8 Sims with a maximum of 6 units per lot. Outdoor spaces are by default counted as shared space for tenants, allowing them to use amenities. Any Sims can also break into the residents including kleptomaniacs to swipe things up. Beware of getting caught while breaking in though.
While it might sound relaxing, one should not feel too comfortable as a property owner. From insect infestations to stubborn molds, expect the unexpected because just about anything can happen. You might face a tenant revolt in front of the house or them breaking rules, but you can evict them. That said, use your power wisely or your unit rating might slip low.
There are a lot of factors that may affect the unit ratings, such as unit size, amenities, decor, the behavior of the tenant or property owner or perhaps there are broken or outdated objects. Always make sure to visit and inspect your rental properties and ensure no utilities are broken such as water heater, electrical fuse box, and such.
You have to work the extra to make sure your Sims tenants do not face the annoyance of flickering lights or cold water.
Night Market
The expansion is also introducing the all-new Night Market, a place for some evening strolls as glowing lanterns and vendors with tantalizing food decorate the street. Is your Sims a foodie because the Night Market is serving Southeast Asian-inspired dishes such as Khao Niao Mamuang, Tofu Pad Thai, Malaysian Satay, Burmese Samosa Soup, Halo Halo, Thai Ice Milk Tea, and many more.
The Night Market stalls are not only selling new items but also exclusive merchandise and Sims players can pair all of them with Home Chef Hustles stalls for more seller activities.
As the 15th expansion, the For Rent Expansion Pack is coming to The Sims 4 across all platforms, including PC, Mac, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.
As a bonus, purchasing the expansion by 18th January 2024 will grant players access to the “Steet Eats” digital content, bringing in some night market flavors such as Quick Treats Fill, Streetside Stars Shade, and Peak Freshness Fruit Basket.
