In celebration of its 5th anniversary, a new anime project has been announced for The Quintessential Quintuplets.
The new anime, titled The Quintessential Quintuplets* has been announced as one of the adaptation’s fifth anniversary projects through their official X/Twitter.
According to the trailer, the anime will depict Futaro Uesugi’s honeymoon trip with the Nakano sisters. The story will be based on a draft by the manga creator Negi Haruba, the production will be completely under his supervision as well.
Aside from the anime announcement, four more plans were announced as part of The Quintessential Quintuplets fifth anniversary plan, those being
- A key animation exhibition
- An event at Yokohama Arena
- The streaming release of the “Kimi datta kara” fifth-anniversary song, the 5th Anniversary Best Album, and the streaming release of a Futaro character song, “Iroasenai Kimochi“
- A new light novel supervised by Negi Haruba
As of writing, no official release date for the anime has been revealed. But since it was just announced as part of the 5th-anniversary event, one can expect that it will be a while before it is available for all to watch.
The Quintessential Quintuplets, otherwise known as Go-Toubun no Hanayome, was serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shounen Magazine from August 2017 to February 2020.
In the series, the story follows the daily life of a high-school student Futaro Uesugi, who is hired as a private tutor for a group of identical quintuples named Ichika, Nino, Miku, Yotsuba, and Itsuki Nakano.
Since its release, the series has been well received by the public, with the manga having over 20 million copies in circulation as of December 2022, making it one of the best-selling manga series. The Quintessential Quintuplets also won the award for the shounen category at the 43rd annual Kodansha Manga Awards in 2019.
