The Pokemon Trading Card Game Live or Pokemon TCG Live for short, a free-to-play successor to The Pokemon Trading Card Game Online Program has been revealed. It will soon be launched for PC, Mac, and Mobile so that players may once again catch them all in card form online.
The Pokemon TCG Online will be shut down ahead of time but it seems that Pokemon TCG Live will be an updated successor that should fundamentally have the same features.
The reason for this change from The Official Pokemon Website is:
The Pokemon TCG Online will be sunsetted prior to the launch of Pokemon TCG Live so that saved content in players’ Pokemon TCG Online accounts can be migrated to Pokemon TCG Live, helping to ensure a more seamless transition for players. This also provides a more optimal experience by merging all fans into one app, offering a greater pool of people to digitally play the Pokemon TCG.
As with the previous Pokemon TCG Program, Live lets you build decks from your collection of assorted pokemon cards. This collection will get transferred over the same way as Online from your Pokemon Trainer Club Account. You can play with friends and customize your accessories.
There are going to be options for casual battles and a competitive ranked mode.
That being said the end of TGC Online will take a few things with it. Friends lists, unopened packs, customized decks, currency, and avatars will be lost. These will be compensated for in the new game with crystals, the new in-game currency. You can get these by logging into the new game with your Pokemon Trainer Club account for the first time.
We currently do not have a release date for The Pokemon Trading Card Game Live beyond that it is launching ‘soon’ but it is likely that it will launch sometime before the end of the year. There will however be a beta before launch.
