A new Pokemon experience is set to begin with PokePark KANTO, a new theme park to be built in the Yomiuriland amusement park.
PokePark KANTO is a Pokemon-themed entertainment venture to be built by Yomiuri Land Co. in Yomiuriland amusement park in collaboration with The Pokémon Company and The Yomiuri Shimbun, with all three companies forming a new enterprise oversee the project.
For the uninitiated, Yomiuriland is located in Tama Hills in the real-world Kanto region, straddling the cities of Inagi in Tokyo and Kawasaki, Japan.
The first Pokemon games, Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green were set in a fictional region of Kanto, the same name as the place where Yomiuriland lies.
This is not the first time that the Yomiuri group companies and The Pokémon Company have collaborated.
The Yomiuri Shimbun began running the educational column “Pokémon to Issho ni Oboeyo! Kotowaza Daihyakka” (Let’s memorize a proverb encyclopedia with Pokémon!) in its morning edition for children back in 2009.
Meanwhile, in 2014, a Pokémon gaming event named after the Ryuo, the most prestigious championship in shogi, The Pokémon Ryuosen was held.
Yomiuriland also launched an outdoor attraction in 2021 named “Pokémon WONDER”, where visitors can get to search for Pokemon within the natural landscape of the park.
This marked the continuation of the PokePark brand as the traveling Japanese theme park once set up stops in Nagoya, Japan in 2005 as well as the now Taipei Children’s Amusement Park in Taiwan back in 2006.
