The Pokémon Company COO, Takato Utsunomiya says that the company is in talks about possibly adjusting the release schedule of Pokémon games.
During an interview with ComicBook at the Pokémon World Championships, Utsunomiya was questioned about whether his company follows a particular schedule when it comes to launching new Pokémon games.
In response, Utsunomiya stated, “I think in general, if you look at the past, the path we’ve taken up until now has been this constant release, always regularly releasing products on a fairly fixed kind of a cadence, you might say.”
“Always having these products able to be introduced and new experiences for our customers, and that’s how we’ve operated up until now. I think we’re still operating in that way, but there’s more and more conversations, as the development environments change, about how we can continue to do this, while making sure that we’re ensuring really quality products are also being introduced.” he added.
These conversations within The Pokémon Company comes in the wake of last year’s controversial release of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
From glitches to frame rate dips, the game was littered with a significant amount of technical issues when on launch day.
Utsunomiya’s response does seem to indicate that his company has acknowledged the problems found with the game and that they are having discussions on how to prevent such releases from happening again in the future, which is definitely a positive sign.
The upcoming DLC for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, titled The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero is set to release on September 13th, 2023.
