A report by Deadline has confirmed that the 2021 Mortal Kombat movie will be getting a sequel at New Line Cinema.
It has also been confirmed Jeremy Slater, the screenwriter for Umbrella Academy and Marvel’s upcoming Moon Knight series has signed on the write the script for the new Mortal Kombat movie.
The 2021 Mortal Kombat movie, while receiving a mixed reception from fans and critics alike, managed to gross $22.5 million USD in its opening weekend at the box office, making it one of the biggest hits during the height of the pandemic.
While we have little information about the new Mortal Kombat movie sequel, the ending of the previous movie does give us some indication of where a sequel might lead.
Minor spoilers for Mortal Kombat (2021): Despite the main plot of Mortal Komabt revolving around the titular Mortal Kopmbat tournament, the first film never actually saw the heroes attend it. Rather the film acted as sort of a prologue building up to it.
The sequel could see the actual Mortal Kombat tournament begin. The first movie also teased that the sequel would include Johnny Cage, one of the main characters of the series who was conspicuously absent from the first movie.

The latest game in the Mortal Kombat video game series, Mortal Kombat 11 is available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Google Stadia.
